Mavrick 440 Discontinued: Harley-Davidson X440 Takes the Lead in Hero’s Premium Strategy

Hero MotoCorp, long known for dominating the entry-level two-wheeler market, has officially discontinued its flagship premium motorcycle, the Mavrick 440. Launched in March 2024, the Mavrick was developed in collaboration with Harley-Davidson and shared its platform with the X440. The move signifies a strategic shift as Hero reassesses its position in the premium segment.

Despite being well-received initially for its build quality and performance, the Mavrick 440 struggled in the market. Sales dwindled from triple-digit figures to barely over 50 units by January 2025, and since April 2025, volumes have mostly remained in single digits or hit zero. In stark contrast, Harley’s X440, built on the same platform, recorded robust sales, with nearly 9,000 units sold in the first nine months of FY2025. Hero’s own Mavrick sold only 3,214 units during the same period.

Another factor contributing to the Mavrick’s decline was the lack of strong after-sales support. Customers reported delays in spare parts and service availability, especially across Hero’s Premia showrooms – a chain launched specifically for its premium motorcycle range.

Hero Mavrick 440 Specs and Pricing

The Mavrick 440 featured a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine producing 27 bhp at 6000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch, the roadster was available in Base, Mid, and Top trims, priced between ₹1.99 lakh to ₹2.24 lakh (ex-showroom).

While its discontinuation might disappoint enthusiasts, this development may create a more focused opportunity for the Harley-Davidson X440 to capture the premium mid-size segment under Hero’s umbrella.
