FSSAI Launches QR Code Complaint System to Tackle Food Safety Violations

In a groundbreaking move to strengthen food hygiene and consumer rights, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new QR code-based grievance redressal system. The system allows diners to instantly report unhygienic food, stale items, misleading labels, or unclean environments by simply scanning a QR code using their smartphones.

As per the new guidelines, all food establishments—including restaurants, cafes, hotels, and delivery kitchens—must prominently display the QR code linked to the ‘Food Safety Connect’ mobile app at billing counters and dining areas. The same link or code is also required to be made available on the food outlet’s website and delivery platforms.

According to the FSSAI, the initiative aims to ensure national food safety and transparency by enabling every citizen to play an active role in identifying violations. Consumers can also verify the authenticity of the Food Business Operator (FBO) licenses, read about their rights, and watch educational videos related to food safety directly through the platform.

The Food Safety Connect Portal is accessible via https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance, and the mobile app is available on the Google Play Store. Once a complaint is filed by scanning the QR code, it is automatically routed to regional FSSAI officials for swift action.

With this initiative, the FSSAI not only reinforces hygiene standards but also empowers Indian consumers to demand accountability in the food industry. The move is expected to bring greater transparency and improved quality standards across all food service establishments.
