Starlink Launch Update: India Pricing, Features, Government Tie-ups & Rollout Status

Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink, has taken a significant step toward its commercial rollout in India by officially listing complete residential pricing on its local website. The newly updated page reveals that the monthly subscription will cost ₹8,600, while users must also purchase a one-time hardware kit priced at ₹34,000. The plan includes unlimited data and a 30-day trial for customers to evaluate connectivity in their region.

Starlink’s residential package highlights features such as plug-and-play installation, 99.9% uptime, weather-resilient hardware, and no data caps, making it suitable for remote and underserved regions. However, pricing details for the business plan are yet to be announced.

Earlier, Starlink’s India market access director, Parnil Urdhwareshe, said that a large portion of Starlink’s global customer base lives in rural areas where satellite broadband is often their first high-speed internet option. He emphasized that extending reliable connectivity to remote communities remains central to Starlink’s mission.

The company has also begun initial hiring rounds in India, signaling preparations for a full-scale entry into the country’s satellite broadband sector.

Currently, India’s Department of Telecommunications has approved three companies for satellite internet operations — Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb (Bharti-backed), and Jio Satellite Communications. All three are awaiting spectrum allocation, the final step before commercial deployment can begin.

In November, the Maharashtra government became the first state to formally partner with Starlink. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the collaboration aims to bring satellite-based connectivity to government offices, rural regions, and critical public infrastructure, especially in hard-to-reach districts such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv.

Starlink, part of Elon Musk’s expanding space ventures, operates the world’s largest constellation of communication satellites and is considered one of the biggest global players in the ICT and satellite internet space.
