Washington, D.C., August 23 – White House personnel director Sergio Gor has been nominated by former US President Donald Trump as the next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. The 38-year-old Republican strategist expressed deep gratitude to Trump, calling the nomination the “honour of my life.”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gor wrote, “Beyond grateful to Donald Trump for his incredible trust and confidence in nominating me to be his next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Nothing has made me prouder than to serve the American people. It will be the honour of my life to represent the United States.”

Born in Uzbekistan during the Soviet era, Gor later moved to Malta as a child before settling in the United States. He attended university in the US and soon became active in Republican politics. His career path included working with Senator Rand Paul, fundraising, and later becoming a publisher of Trump’s books. Interestingly, he also once worked as a wedding DJ before rising in Washington’s political circles.
Trump praised his longtime ally in a Truth Social post, calling Gor a “great friend” who has been by his side for years. “As Director of Presidential Personnel, Sergio and his team hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across federal agencies in record time. He will continue in his White House role until Senate confirmation,” Trump noted.
The former president highlighted Gor’s contributions to his presidential campaigns and publishing projects, adding, “For the most populous region in the world, I need someone I can fully trust. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador and deliver on our America First agenda.”
The nomination also drew support from several senior US leaders. Vice President JD Vance described Gor as a “great guy” who will “make a fantastic ambassador to India,” while Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Gor would be an “excellent representative of America in one of the most important global relationships.”
This diplomatic appointment comes at a time of heightened tension, as Trump recently imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty over New Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil. The move adds further weight to Gor’s upcoming responsibilities in shaping US-India relations under Trump’s vision.
