Jabalpur Strikes Gold! 3.35 Lakh Tonnes Discovered in Landmark Geological Survey

In a groundbreaking discovery, geologists have confirmed the presence of extensive gold deposits beneath the surface of Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh, potentially transforming the region into one of India’s richest mineral hubs.

The discovery was made in the Mahangwa Kewalri area of Sihora tehsil, already recognized for its iron and manganese resources. According to preliminary survey data, the gold-rich zone spans over 100 hectares, and early estimates suggest reserves may exceed 3.35 lakh tonnes — a find that could rival some of India’s largest known gold fields.

A senior official from the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources stated:

“Chemical analysis has revealed substantial traces of gold, copper, and other valuable minerals. This discovery has the potential to significantly boost the region’s economy and national gold reserves.”

The extensive survey conducted by the department’s Regional Office involved advanced soil testing, chemical analysis, and multiple field assessments. Alongside gold, the survey also confirmed commercial-grade copper and other minerals, strengthening Jabalpur’s status as a key mining destination.

This isn’t the first time gold has been linked to this mineral-rich belt — traces were previously detected in nearby Katni district, although they lacked commercial viability. This new, conclusive evidence positions Jabalpur as a future powerhouse in India’s gold mining landscape.

Current Mining Landscape and Future Plans

Jabalpur already supports 42 active mines, extracting materials like iron ore, manganese, limestone, laterite, and silica sand. The confirmation of gold could elevate the region’s importance in India’s mineral sector and attract both public and private mining investments.

Authorities plan to proceed with deep exploratory drilling to evaluate the full scale of the reserves and their economic feasibility. If the findings hold, commercial mining could begin in the next few years, potentially creating thousands of jobs and adding significant revenue to both state and central government coffers.

Officials emphasize the importance of sustainable and responsible mining practices to ensure long-term economic and environmental benefits for local communities.

As excitement builds, mining stakeholders, policymakers, and economists are closely watching how this development unfolds. If commercial extraction becomes viable, Jabalpur could soon shine as India’s newest gold capital.
